FAQ
Is this background remover free?
- Yes. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. There is no cap on the number of images or on the output size, only what your browser can hold in memory.
- If you consider supporting, a small tip keeps the tools running and means a lot. Support via or coffee.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
- No. The image is decoded and the background is removed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded. The offline ready badge next to the title shows once the model is cached.
Does it keep the original resolution?
- Yes. The segmentation model works on a 1024 pixel copy, but the transparency mask it produces is scaled back up, snapped to the image edges with a guided filter and applied to your full-resolution pixels. The PNG you download matches the size you put in.
Does it work offline?
- Yes. The first background removal downloads a roughly 44 MB model plus the runtime. After that the page, the model and the runtime are cached on your device and it keeps working with no internet connection.
Which image formats can I use?
- Any still image your browser can open: JPG, PNG, WebP, and usually AVIF and GIF. iPhone HEIC photos only open in Safari, so convert them first elsewhere if you are on Chrome or Firefox. The output is always a PNG so it can carry transparency.
How good is the cutout, and how fast?
- It runs the IS-Net model entirely on your device. That is accurate on clear subjects (people, products, objects) and keeps the parts of an object that happen to match the background, like a white flag stripe against a pale sky.
- It runs on the CPU with WebAssembly, no graphics acceleration, so a photo takes roughly 10 to 30 seconds. Very fine edges like flyaway hair stay approximate.
- It is meant for photographs, not flat graphics or patterns. To knock a solid colour out of a logo or a scan, pick that colour as the output background here, or use an exact colour-key tool.
